I don’t like planes.

/I don’t like rushing to the airport. I don’t like worrying about whether or not they’ll lose my luggage. I don’t like being confined for several hours on end. I don’t like the constant “plane sound” you hear from the inside. I especially don’t like motion sickness, to which I am quite susceptible. So, yeah….I don’t like planes.

/The fact that I spent 15 hours on planes the other day just to get to Japan should give you some indication of how much I love Japan.

/As I mentioned in a previous post, it all started at 4:00 local time in Chicago. I got to the airport and met up with Kirsten, my traveling partner. We’re in the same college at home and we’re also in the same Japanese exchange program. It was just under 2 hours to get to Dallas. Yes, I’m aware that Chicago has direct flights to Tokyo. I would’ve preferred that, but going through Dallas was cheaper for some reason. Anyway, the Dallas flight actually had wi-fi, so I should’ve blogged from there. But I figured I could just as well blog from the Tokyo flight…though as it turns out, that one didn’t have wi-fi. Dang.

/We got to Dallas a bit early, and had some breakfast. Then came the looong flight.

/On flights like this, the hope is that you’ll conk out for 8 hours or so, thus dramatically shortening the apparent travel time. That didn’t really happen for Kirsten and me. Throughout the trip, we slept only sporadically. But for our waking hours, there were personal video screens with a bunch of random movies, games etc.. I finally saw the new Sherlock Holmes movie. I think it was a good movie, though it’s hard to say for sure, considering that I couldn’t hear a gosh-danged thing, thanks to the plane-noise and the mediocre earbuds. Ok, actually I heard some of the movie, but I missed a fair chunk of it too. I also watched Fantastic Mr. Fox and Zero Focus, which had the great advanatage of subtitles, thus bypassing my audio problems.

/Overall, I spent so much time wearing those earbuds that, several hours after we landed I experienced “phantom earbuds”, wherein it felt like I was still

/I don’t think you missed much with the Sherlock Holmes movie, I didn’t personally care for it. I personally never envisioned Sherlock Holmes to be a boxer…that just seemed kinda out of character for him to do considering I perceived him to be much more brainier and intellectual.

/Never was too happy when I suffered from motion sickness. Glad to hear though you are on solid ground in Japan. Saw your video and I wonder what the triangle means in your window?

/I always think it’s cool to celebrate when one’s dreams are manifesting. It’s fun to hear the story unfold.
